Exit polls [Nov. 3rd, 2004|11:18 am]

What I find interesting about today's result is that everyone (including the White house and the dems) says the exit polls were wrong. Wolf Blitzer reckoned that people were simply lying in the exit polls, but it's my understanding that the polls have generally been reliable before.

A huge propoertion of people voted electronically this year - up to a third, I think, following the $3bn that the Help America Vote Act allocated for electronic voting equipment in 2002. It's certainly many more than ever voted electronically before. And various industry commentators in the academic sector such as Rebecca Mercuri and Peter Neumann have been saying that the e-voting systems were fundamentally unreliable and flawed. I haven't seen anyone in the mainstream US press consider this yet.
